I'm not really worried about how much my reputation will suffer if I post on this thing, because no one will ever read it. Opifex might, but I think I've been inactive enough on this thing that she's never going to check, anyway.
Last night I just finished my first thing ever.
Well, not my first thing ever - I've finished a few short stories before, but one of them was crap, and the other one I wrote more than two years ago.
My first extended work, let's call it.
Alas, it is not original. It is (dare I say it) fan fiction.
....Eragon fan fiction.
Don't judge me. I don't like the books; on the contrary, I am a long-time lurker of AS and have been converted for years now. It's just...I couldn't help myself. I needed something to write, and it was right there, and I thought, what the hell. Let's see what happens when I put a realistic and developed character (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) into the Eragon-verse and let things roll.
The truth is, not a lot happens, really. We just get my commentary on the whole thing.
I started writing this in...oh, sometime after January 5, 2007. It's been in the works for a while, and I wasn't a very god writer when I started. So, the beginning sucks. I know that. The first few chapters are a complete mess, complete with Sue-like traits and a standard Angsty Background. However, things gradually began to get better, and I'm pretty sure that by the end of it my OCs were something close to becoming their own characters. I'm rather proud of that. Also, it's the first extended work I've finished. Have I mentioned that?
"One ending is worth a thousand good beginnings" or something, right? So I consider this to be somewhat of a major event in my chronology as a writer. I've finally worked a project through to the finish. Now I can go on to finish other (hopefully original) stuff.
Anyway, since this is my private journal, I'm going to post the thing, chapter by chapter (there are forty-three) if I can figure out how to, just to get it out there. If by some crazy chance someone actually does end up reading this, please be constructive, and if not, at least be tactful.
Here goes nothing....
